If you have ever wondered what tools I use in my work, here are my babies: high speed air turbines- Shofu Lab Air-Z and NSK Presto.
Actually, I use only the second one, as for me it works better. However, Shofu is a really fantastic tool as well. Although most of the time now I’ve been working with Presto, the first handpiece I bought in 2013. Till that time, all of my lamps had been created with Dremel rotary tools (300, 400, 4000) which I still use for all drilling works and some other.
The NSK presto rotates at the speed of about 320,000 rpm where most rotary tools like Dremel tools spin at 30,000 – 50,000 rpm.
That makes a huge difference which makes this tool easy to work with in such materials as glass or metal. However, do not overstate its capabilities, because until 2014 all of my lamps had been made with Dremel. The first lamp which was made using Presto was the Table lamp XX Butterfly.
